It's customary to celebrate the milestone of 10 society fixtures with a photograph and a website mention. Although with a voucher and not a kit bag! Sam Joins us from Loughborough University and brings with him great experience of IMS rugby. We hope to welcome more referees like Sam to our society. Well done Sam.
Exemplary Service Recognition
The society has recognised the service of one of our long serving referees, making the transition from active refereeing to being an in-active member. Here he is being presented with his gift by the president.
Kerrel has decided to hang up his boots after refereeing his last game just before Christmas. He has been a huge part of the society including taking part in Japan Leicestershire exchanges amongst many others. His commitment has been incredible to any game, Saturday, midweek and Sundays.
He is still keen to coach, mentor and support the committee with his wealth of expertise.
As a committee we decided to mark this occasion with a small memento for all his years of service to society.
Presidents Christmas Message 2023
Christmas Words Of Wisdom from Your President
Here we are, half way through the season, and with the conclusion of the world cup, what a great start for rugby in general.
The mid season grading review took place on 13th December and all members with changes have been advised – well done to them, and keep up the great standards to the rest of our members.
Our planning is progressing well for our Annual Dinner, and with world cup final referee Wayne Barnes as our speaker, it is looking like a sell out!
The venue is at the Tigers ground once more, and even with the top referee in the world attending, your committee have kept the cost to an absolute minimum.
On the domestic front, the Domestic Law Variations (DLVs) regarding tackle height, seem to have been accepted well, without the predicted upheaval to the game – well done you referees for a safe and sensible application of these.
We are covering most games but are still needing more refs, so do continue to persuade people to take up the whistle wherever the opportunity arises.
A spin off from the world cup may hopefully be more players interested in the game, so hopefully more second and third team games to be covered too.
My Presidents lunch took place on Sunday 5th November at Longcliffe Golf Club and 44 people had a fantastic lunch and a few hours of discussion and fun. The society provided the wine and our ‘surprise guest speaker’ spent half an hour entertaining. Join us next year if you can – it is a great opportunity to thank wives, partners and family for letting us enjoy our rugby each week.
Have a fantastic Christmas and new year and I look forward to seeing you all again in the new year.
Presidents Lunch 2023
Back again this time with a new president Peter kicked off the season with the annual president's lunch. I was hoping to find out what he was saying here, but we assume that its not safe for the internet, Or far to long for me to type out. Hope everyone in attendance had a wonderful time in the hospitality of our president. Special thank you to the significant others and guests who joined our referees at the afternoon event. Without you many of our referees might not do what they do!
You will of course find the photos from the event in our photo gallery section.
